I'm an undergraduate Economics BSC student at the University of Warwick. I achieved four A*s at A Level and I have 3 years of tutoring experience already. My goal is to help my students to achieve the best grades they can, regardless of which stage of education they are in as well as offer student advice on applying to university (should they be an A-Level student), having gone through the process recently. My teaching follows a structured learning plan, tailored to what my students are currently doing in school and the requirements of the national curriculum for their age group. I attended a grammar school through GCSE and A-Levels where I received 11A*s and 1A. I then took my A-Levels in German, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics where I received four A*s. I am currently studying Economics at the University of Warwick and I also teach as a cover teacher part time in local schools.

I previously completed a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Biotechnology. This programme established a solid foundation in biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, and laboratory practices while strengthening my problem-solving, critical thinking, and scientific communication abilities through research projects and practical laboratory work. Alongside my academic qualifications, I have gained valuable experience supporting scientific research and delivering high-quality STEM education. These opportunities have enabled me to apply my scientific knowledge in both research and teaching, further developing my analytical, organisational, and communication skills. I've been a deputy head for ten years in London and now I am working to support students directly to be successful in particularly in maths GCSE, A Level Law and 11+ entrance. I know that students have different needs and that it is essential to adapt lessons to fit students' different skills. It's exactly why tutoring can unlock potential and give confidence, and I really enjoy doing it! I am at the moment really booked up with tutees, so have availability only between 06.00 and 07.30. First Class degree from Durham University PGCE (Qualified Teacher Status) from University of Oxford Current law student and scholarship holder at BPP I'm stoked about learning. So much so, I've put myself through my paces throughout my career to teach new and different subjects. I've taught A Level music, A Level English and GCSE Business Studies - all when we were short of teachers to teach them. I hope I can share my passion for acquiring new knowledge with more students.

The benefits of a tutor to prepare for the IB

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16 to 19. It encourages curiosity about the world and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as providing an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education.

It aims not only to develop students’ knowledge in a range of subjects and disciplines, but helps them become confident, self-motivated and resilient global citizens.

The programme is composed of six academic subject groups along with the Diploma Programme (DP) Core. The DP Core requires students to reflect on the nature of knowledge in a course called Theory of Knowledge (ToK), participate in independent research to produce an Extended Essay (EE), and engage in extracurricular activities related to Creativity, Action and Service (CAS).

What subjects are covered in the IB Diploma Programme?

Subjects are offered at a Standard and Higher Level. Students must pass at least three subjects at Higher Level and a total of six from the following list:

  • Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
    • Group 2: Language Acquisition
    • Group 3: Individuals and Societies
    • Group 4: Sciences
    • Group 5: Mathematics
    • Group 6: The Arts

Each subject is scored from 1-7, and up to 3 additional points may be awarded for the ToK essay and the EE. A minimum of 24 points is required to pass, with 45 points the maximum that can be achieved. The CAS does not count towards the final score but must be completed to earn the diploma.

In general, a score of 30 points or higher is considered enough to gain admission to many universities, with more selective universities requiring a score of 40 or higher.

How to get good results in the IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma is a rigorous academic programme which many students find challenging, which can lead to overwhelm, a loss of motivation and procrastination.

It’s vital to start early when it comes to preparing for the exams. Revising should ideally be done in short amounts daily and balanced across multiple subjects. Completing past papers will familiarise you with the types of questions asked and improve your exam technique.

Using an IB tutor is a sure path to success as they can teach effective learning strategies, help you gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and work with you to develop a realistic and achievable study schedule that will keep you on track throughout the year.

GoStudent has a range of IB tutors that have direct experience in teaching the curriculum and understand the assessment methods. They have a special focus on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the Extended Essay, teaching the necessary skills and strategies to succeed in both as well as help across different subjects within the level.
