My name is Gemma and I am an English and Drama Graduate from Exeter University, 2:1 with a Creative Writing Dissertation. I have aspirations in teaching at Secondary School level and classroom and mentoring experience. I have worked for a year post graduation as a Sabbatical Officer in the Students Union. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing poetry and performing. I achieved 1x 7, 2x 8, 2x A* and 7x 9 in my GCSE's and 3x A at A level in English, Drama and Philosophy and Ethics. I took a gap year working, and volunteered in my school supporting extracurricular drama, and I have since returned 3x with paid opportunities, 2x teaching in music and drama. I went to Exeter University and studied English and Drama acheiving a 2:1 and departmental commendation for contributing to the life of the department. During my time at University I took on leadership and mentoring roles in extracurricular and this led me to my current position as a Sabbatical Officer advocating for Students in the University.

This strong foundation has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach and simplify complex scientific concepts. My passion for science, coupled with my academic background, allows me to bring a unique perspective to tutoring, making learning an engaging and enriching experience for my students. In addition to my degree, I have also completed a 120-hour TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate. I have just started university and I am eager to help my students in a supportive way with a dynamic based on mutual respect. Outside of my studies I love to watch football, go on hikes in the South Downs and read the financial times, as I am of course interested in any developments in markets. I went to Sackville School, East Grinstead and completed 12 GCSE's and one level 2 certificate in Further Maths, all at grade 7 and above. I then progressed to my A-Levels, achieving A*AAA in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics. During my time I also gained a Gold Certificate in the Senior Maths Challenge and participated in the Senior Maths Kangaroo, whilst also participating in the FCDO Next generation Economics essay competition.

Currently I am a teacher of Mathematics for secondary education, and I am also teaching adults as part of their CPD. When I am teaching, I use creative and critical thinking techniques to help my students to acquire in-depth understanding of fundamental concepts of mathematics. Part of my teaching consists of games, quizzes and other creative and fun activities that aim to make teaching and learning easier and more enjoyable. It is also important for me to help my students to learn how to solve word problems, which is a skill that students find hard to acquire. I enjoy walking, travelling, reading, sports and music. Lately I became fascinated with Space exploration and the possibilities that it creates for the development of new technology and how it helps improve living conditions on Earth. I am also interested in Artificial Intelligence and machine learning and how these are based on mathematical thought. I have a degree in Pure Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Greece, an MA in Mathematics Education from Leeds University in the UK and a PGCE in Mathematics from the UK. I have a Qualified Teacher Status to work in UK schools and I have 22 years of work experience in the UK, Greece and Cyprus.
