Hello everyone! My name is Scarlett and I love tutoring because I have been able to help lots of students feel confident and independent over their own learning and future. I teach biology and chemistry at both KS3 and KS4 level with no preference as to which. I love to go on long runs and go out with friends when I’m not studying to become a vet. I graduated from a highly selective grammar school achieving 10 grades 8-9 (A*) for GCSE and at IB, the equivalent to 4A* at A-level. I have been a tutor for over 2 years now helping students (most of which classify as SEN) through learning difficulties and anxiety to get into dream schools, achieving their highest potential.

I am a fully English-educated student with a strong academic background in Mathematics. I achieved an A in A-Level Mathematics and have over 3 years of tutoring experience, completing 300+ hours of lessons. I have helped many GCSE Maths students improve their grades, with several achieving Grade 8s and 9s. I also participated in the UK Maths Challenge, achieving the highest score in my school, which developed my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Teaching Style My teaching style is student-centred, patient, and adaptable. I first identify the areas a student finds difficult and then break each topic down into simple, manageable steps. I use clear explanations, worked examples, and guided practice before encouraging students to tackle questions independently. I place particular emphasis on exam technique. I help students understand different question types, show their working clearly, avoid common mistakes, and apply their knowledge to unfamiliar problems. I adapt each lesson to the student's ability and goals, whether they are aiming to secure a pass or achieve a Grade 8 or 9. Proudest Achievements One of my proudest achievements is helping many GCSE Maths students achieve Grade 8s and 9s. Seeing students progress from struggling with a topic to confidently answering exam-style questions is extremely rewarding and is one of the main reasons I enjoy tutoring. I am currently studying Medicine. My education has provided me with a strong foundation in Mathematics, science, and analytical problem-solving. I achieved an A in A-Level Mathematics and have over 3 years of tutoring experience, with more than 300 hours of teaching. During this time, I have specialised in GCSE Mathematics, working with students of different abilities and helping many students achieve Grade 8s and 9s. My main specialisation is GCSE Mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, number, and problem-solving. I also have extensive experience with exam preparation, helping students improve their exam technique, identify common mistakes, and approach unfamiliar questions with greater confidence. I have not yet completed my university degree as I am currently studying Medicine. My academic and tutoring experience has allowed me to develop strong communication, patience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, which I apply to every lesson.

“Good morning, my name is Hasara Mataraarachchi, and I am 30 years old. I graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. Currently, I teach Mathematics. I have been working as a one-to-one tutor for about six years. During this time, I have supported students preparing for exams such as SAT and GCSE. I have experience teaching students at different levels, and I adapt my lessons to meet their individual learning needs. I have also taught a student with ADHD, which helped me develop patience and flexible teaching strategies. I am passionate about teaching because I truly enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts. It is very rewarding to see their confidence grow once they begin to grasp something they previously found challenging. I am especially interested in supporting students with learning differences such as dyscalculia and dyslexia. In my lessons, I focus on making learning engaging by using interactive methods and real-life examples. I adapt to each student’s learning style through questioning and step-by-step scaffolding. For example, when teaching algebra, I break problems into smaller steps and use clear, structured methods to support understanding. Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching movies and spending time with my pets. Thank you for this opportunity. I have been a tutor for 2 years, specialising in Maths and English, but I am comfortable teaching a range of subjects. I am in my second year of university studying Law, which has given me many skills such as attention to detail and a strong work ethic. I transfer these qualities to tutoring, and my priority is helping students excel in their studies by providing effective and engaging lessons that tailor to each child's needs. I completed my GCSEs in The Abbey School and my A levels in Kendrick School, achieving results of a high standard that I was proud of. I am now studying Law in university, which has been a passion of mine for many years. My education journey has provided me with joyful and beneficial experiences, as well as challenges that have developed my resilience and shaped me as a person.
