I am basically a B.Sc.-qualified technical person who became a language teacher while working as a computer programmer/systems analyst in Switzerland. I teach regularly online & face-to-face and the languages taught are English, French, German & elementary Arabic. I have been tutoring online for over 5 years, working for such organisations as Berlitz & the British Council. I live near Durham, UK, and have a very wide range of student types, ranging from young learners under 10 to mature business people learning a language for their retirement. After many years in French-speaking Europe, north Africa, the Arabian Gulf, Chile & central Asia, I now live near Durham, UK, and have had a very wide range of student types, ranging from young learners under 10 to mature business people learning a language for their retirement. Although language teaching is my main activity, I can also teach PC windows-technique, Microsoft utilities, and a few GCSE subjects. My EFL (English as a Foreign Language) specialities are IELTS preparation for both Academic & General Training candidates. After O/A-levels and completing an Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering, I chose to do a Computer Science degree at N. Staffordshire Polytechnic because it was possible to study French intensively alongside. This meant that the 3rd (industrial) year had to be spent in a French-speaking country and in my case that was Switzerland, where I spent a year at CERN in Geneva. To become an English language teacher I obtained the CTEFLA in Geneva in 1995 and went on to study for the DELTA.

I am a 3rd year biomedical engineering student at University College London. I come from an international background and I have been tutoring my whole life, since age 14 and pride myself on making sure that the way I teach is enjoyable and engaging. I love to chat with people so getting to know my student and what they enjoy is very important as a part of teaching. My hobbies are triathlon and goint to the gym. I also follow football very closely. I went to the English School of Kyrenia in the TRNC. It is an international school and therefore I did IGCSEs and International A Levels. I did my A Levels in Maths, Physics and Biology and achieved an A grade in all three as well as 8s and 9s in all of my IGCSEs. While at school I spent free time tutoring younger years. I now attend University College London and am in my third year of Biomedical Engineering. I have been tutoring 2 family friends aged 16 for their IGCSEs and I tutored my younger brother A Level Physics and Maths while balancing my university degree. My degree has a perfect balance of Maths, Physics, and Biology, making me feel confident that my knowledge is up to date and constantly developing, allowing me to tutor the subjects to a high level. Currently doing the subjects I tutor at a university level has allowed me to understand concepts on a deeper, core level and allow me to teach them at a fundamental level, rather than just memorisation.

I adapt lesson style and content to your needs. We can go through specific subject areas, study skills and exam skills as required. I can vary how the material is delivered according to the situation and what works for you. I will teach and do lecture notes where appropriate, or take a more "coaching" style if that suits you and the situation better. We can even do more seminar/discussion style lessons as you become more comfortable with the material. At the heart of all of the above is making sure that we are working in a way that can help you achieve your goals. I know that you are probably already having lessons in school or at home, and my goal will be to complement those existing lessons rather than replacing them so that you can get the best value out of our time together. Specialisms: I am able to cover all aspects of the curriculum but I am particularly focused on skills. Psychology is a little different to other subjects covered at A-Level - not only do students have to learn a lot of information and produce it under exam conditions, but there is also a need to analyze and evaluate what has been learned so that they can write clearly, concisely and insightfully. As well as teaching the syllabus content, I can help improve a student's thinking and writing skills so that they can go into exams with more confidence. I have also developed my coaching skills so work with students to help them improve their own problem-solving capabilities so that they can identify how they can study more effectively. A bit about me: I'm a PhD-qualified tutor who, over the course of my career, spent time working as a researcher, consultant and analyst across different industries. In all of those other roles, the part I enjoyed most was training, teaching and coaching people, so I am working towards making that my full-time career. Working in industry has taught me the importance of always turning up prepared and ready to work, using clear, prompt and honest communication and making sure that whoever I am working with knows that I am working in their best interests. The same will apply when we work together. In my spare time I love to play football and follow a lot of sport. I am learning to play guitar (very slowly) and enjoy listening to music, going to gigs when the opportunity arises. I love learning and am always doing some course or another - I'm currently studying to teach English as a foreign language and working towards accredited coach status. A common thread in all those roles was coaching and teaching colleagues and communicating complex information to a range of people who did not necessarily share the same background. This means that I can work effectively with anyone as their tutor.

Languages: English and Spanish. I am a native Spanish and Dr in social anthropologist at the the University of Manchester. I teach Sociology and Media Studies at all Levels including GCSE, A-Level including IB curriculum and exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, 11+ and Cambridge International. I also teach Spanish to adult students at different levels. My teaching philosophy is shaped by my academic background in anthropology and interest in how culture influence the production of knowledge. I also have knowledge in film studies and skills in audio-visual production. I can support students in their academic and artistic creative process. In my teaching, I link the learning material and cultures to engage in communication with the students and contextualise what we are learning. Cycling, climbing and the love for animals are some of my main personal interests. I love travelling and I am currently living in Berlin.
