Hi, I'm Lydia, a Chemistry graduate who loves teaching. I specialise in A-level Chemistry but have over 7 years of teaching/tutoring experience, with students from the ages of 3-18. My lessons are tailored to each student's pace and needs. When I am not tutoring, you will find me with my nose in a book. I did my GCSEs and A-Levels at Old Palace of John Whitgift School and completed my degree at University of Warwick. I specialise in tutoring A-Level Chemistry but enjoying teaching all age ranges. I have always loved science and being able to help students like me achieve their goals is something I am so happy I get to do.

“Good morning, my name is Hasara Mataraarachchi, and I am 30 years old. I graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. Currently, I teach Mathematics. I have been working as a one-to-one tutor for about six years. During this time, I have supported students preparing for exams such as SAT and GCSE. I have experience teaching students at different levels, and I adapt my lessons to meet their individual learning needs. I have also taught a student with ADHD, which helped me develop patience and flexible teaching strategies. I am passionate about teaching because I truly enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts. It is very rewarding to see their confidence grow once they begin to grasp something they previously found challenging. I am especially interested in supporting students with learning differences such as dyscalculia and dyslexia. In my lessons, I focus on making learning engaging by using interactive methods and real-life examples. I adapt to each student’s learning style through questioning and step-by-step scaffolding. For example, when teaching algebra, I break problems into smaller steps and use clear, structured methods to support understanding. Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching movies and spending time with my pets. Thank you for this opportunity. I’m excited to help students succeed.” I hold a degree in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, where I developed strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills. I am currently reading for a Master’s degree in Environmental and Industrial Chemistry, which is further developing my ability to approach complex problems systematically and apply mathematical concepts in practical contexts.

I am currently a second year student, studying Chemistry at the University of Surrey. I have strong foundational qualifications in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A-Level. My problem solving and quantitative skills will be useful in helping explain difficult concepts to a variety of students. Outside of studying I enjoy Judo and rock climbing which has built my resilience and other skills. I am currently a second year Chemistry Student at the University of Surrey. I have completed qualifications in Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A level grade. I also gained qualifications in a wide range of GCSE subjects, including English, Maths and Science.

I'm a dedicated and patient tutor with a strong passion for helping students build confidence and achieve academic success. I have achieved high grades in both GCSEs and A-levels, and have worked with a range of students. Whether a student needs help preparing for exams, catching up in class, or wants to get ahead, I focus on creating a positive and supportive learning environment. My goal is to help students improve their grades while also inspiring curiosity and helping them form strategies for success. 100% of my students so far have seen an improvement of at least two grade, with many moving up many grades. I have completed both my GCSEs and A-Levels in the UK, achieving strong results across a range of academic subjects. At GCSE level, I studied core subjects including English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and the Sciences, along with Citizenship, Geography, French and RE, which gave me a well-rounded academic foundation. For A-Levels, I chose to pursue Biology, English Literature and Politics, which not only deepened my subject knowledge but also developed my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. I am studying law at university.
