My teaching style is structured yet flexible, as I always adapt my lessons to meet the individual needs of each student. I specialise in simplifying complex concepts, strengthening problem-solving skills, and providing effective exam preparation strategies. Many of my students have not only improved their grades but also developed greater confidence and independence in their studies. Through my Pharmacy degree, I have further enhanced my analytical and communication skills, which I bring into my teaching. I believe that learning should be engaging, supportive, and motivating, and I work hard to create an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and grow academically. Whether you are aiming to excel in Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics, I am committed to helping you reach your full potential and succeed in your studies. I have completed my A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics, which gave me a strong foundation in the sciences and analytical thinking. During my time in school, I also achieved solid GCSE results across a range of subjects, further strengthening my academic background. I am currently pursuing a Pharmacy degree at the University of Birmingham, where I am developing advanced knowledge in health sciences, chemistry, and patient care. Alongside my studies, I have undertaken a variety of work experiences in healthcare-related settings. These include placements in hospitals and laboratories, where I was exposed to biomedical science, as well as experiences related to psychology and other medical fields. These opportunities have helped me broaden my perspective, improve my communication skills, and apply my scientific knowledge in real-life contexts. This combination of strong academic performance, higher education in Pharmacy, and diverse healthcare experiences has given me both subject expertise and the ability to connect my knowledge to practical applications. These experiences also allow me to support students not only in their academic studies but also in developing a deeper interest in science and its real-world relevance.

New tutor

Hi! I'm Jenna, a recently graduated Psychology student with a passion for learning and helping others achieve their full potential. As a determined problem-solver, I have always loved maths - the satisfaction I get from solving a particularly difficult problem is what makes it my favourite! From solving algebraic equations in early GCSE to working out financial budgets for my university life, maths has always been exciting for me. Hopefully I can share this passion with you, and have some fun along the way. I have some tutoring experience across a range of contexts, from helping year 7s struggling with secondary school maths topics, to regularly assisting university students with psychology questions. At the forefront of my focus is a student's inherent grasp of the topic. I will continually check your understanding, and I am willing to approach the topic from a different angle in order to elevate your understanding and knowledge. I am determined to help you in any way that I can so you can achieve your personal academic goals and importantly, boost your confidence in your own mathematical ability. There are no stupid questions in lessons with me - I will encourage you to stick with it and keep asking for help and guidance until you could do it in your sleep! It's not always about top grades: a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and familiarity with numerical rules come first, but good marks almost always come hand in hand with this. I look forward to tutoring you!

The benefits of a tutor to prepare for the IB

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16 to 19. It encourages curiosity about the world and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as providing an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education.

It aims not only to develop students’ knowledge in a range of subjects and disciplines, but helps them become confident, self-motivated and resilient global citizens.

The programme is composed of six academic subject groups along with the Diploma Programme (DP) Core. The DP Core requires students to reflect on the nature of knowledge in a course called Theory of Knowledge (ToK), participate in independent research to produce an Extended Essay (EE), and engage in extracurricular activities related to Creativity, Action and Service (CAS).

What subjects are covered in the IB Diploma Programme?

Subjects are offered at a Standard and Higher Level. Students must pass at least three subjects at Higher Level and a total of six from the following list:

  • Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
    • Group 2: Language Acquisition
    • Group 3: Individuals and Societies
    • Group 4: Sciences
    • Group 5: Mathematics
    • Group 6: The Arts

Each subject is scored from 1-7, and up to 3 additional points may be awarded for the ToK essay and the EE. A minimum of 24 points is required to pass, with 45 points the maximum that can be achieved. The CAS does not count towards the final score but must be completed to earn the diploma.

In general, a score of 30 points or higher is considered enough to gain admission to many universities, with more selective universities requiring a score of 40 or higher.

How to get good results in the IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma is a rigorous academic programme which many students find challenging, which can lead to overwhelm, a loss of motivation and procrastination.

It’s vital to start early when it comes to preparing for the exams. Revising should ideally be done in short amounts daily and balanced across multiple subjects. Completing past papers will familiarise you with the types of questions asked and improve your exam technique.

Using an IB tutor is a sure path to success as they can teach effective learning strategies, help you gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and work with you to develop a realistic and achievable study schedule that will keep you on track throughout the year.

GoStudent has a range of IB tutors that have direct experience in teaching the curriculum and understand the assessment methods. They have a special focus on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the Extended Essay, teaching the necessary skills and strategies to succeed in both as well as help across different subjects within the level.
